BidNet Direct alternative: BidFox vs BidNet Direct
BidNet Direct is a bid network where thousands of state and local agencies publish their solicitations, with free registration and paid packages for wider coverage. BidFox does one thing: a daily email with the new federal notices from SAM.gov that fit your trade and states. Many contractors need both.
On SAM.gov today: 9,032 open federal notices, 2,089 of them set aside for small businesses and 9,032 posted in the last 7 days. BidFox reads all of them every morning.
What BidNet Direct does
BidNet Direct, now part of SOVRA, is used by government agencies to publish, distribute and award contracts. SOVRA says it partners with more than 7,000 government agencies, and BidNet's homepage says it shows bids from over 90,000 agencies and over 25,000 open bids a day, from state departments, cities, school districts, universities and federal agencies.
Basic registration is free and lets you see and get matched with bids from member agencies, with email notifications by category code and an optional daily summary. Paid packages add saved searches, advanced search, bids gathered from other sources, and statewide, national or federal coverage.
BidNet Direct does not list package prices on a public pricing page; they are shown during registration.
Who BidNet Direct is best for
- Vendors who sell to cities, counties, school districts and state agencies.
- Anyone whose local buyers publish on a BidNet purchasing group: registering for free there is often how you receive their bid documents and addenda.
- Businesses that want state, local and some federal bids in one place.
Where BidFox is different
- BidFox is federal only. It reads every notice posted on SAM.gov each morning; it does not cover BidNet's state and local agencies.
- Instead of a list of matches by category code, BidFox ranks each notice with a score out of 100 and one line on why it fits, and leaves out notices closing in under two days and set-asides for certifications you don't hold.
- Prices are public: $29 or $59 a month, monthly, with 7 days free.
- BidFox also publishes free pages with the open federal contracts and recent awards for every state and trade, so you can check the volume before you pay anything.
